1. gobble

■ パクパク is an onomatopoeia word. One meaning is to gobble or eat voraciously.

◇ 食べることが大好きで何でも大きな口を開けてパクパク食べています。
She loves to eat, and she opens her big mouth again and again and gobbles food down. (Found at 私の赤ちゃん:かわいい笑顔の展覧会

子供さんの友達が自分の嫌いな食べ物を平気でパクパク横で食べてると、勢いで食べちゃいます。(Found at 子供の好き嫌いをなくす方法

As shown in these examples, this meaning of パクパク is generally used as an adverb with a verb of eating such as パクパク食べる or パクパク食う。

2. open the mouth wide and then shut it

■ パクパク also means to open the mouth wide and then shut it (repeatedly).

◇ 魚が口をパクパクさせる
In this example, it is used causatively (使役) with させる。

Surely, these two meanings are the origin of the video game Pac-Man. Even the history of 岩谷徹 (Iwatanai, Tooru) eating pizza when he came on the idea is suggestive of パクパク食べる。See videogames.com History of Pac-Man and HISTORY OF VIDEO GAME for Pac-Man trivia.

3. cootie catcher; fortune teller

■ This is a type of 折り紙 (origami) popular around the world. By inserting your fingers into the パクパク, it can be moved, looking like a mouth that opens and shuts. Another person makes a selection of something written on the panels to receive a "fortune." Outside of Japan, they are also popular for catching cooties. (This is for children who do not know what cooties are.)
